Sinigang or Sour Soup is a popular Filipino dish, which can be cooked using shrimps or prawns, fish, pork and even chicken.

You can see this on the table of every Filipino household, especially during the rainy days when the cold temperature makes it so inviting to have a sip of this sour soup. However, because of its irresistible taste, this dish is still commonly served even in the middle of a sunny day. In fact, a lot of small restaurants even serve free sour soup to their customers (without the meat, of course). Hence, this is really an impeccable recipe may it be for a soup or for the main dish.

Ingredients:

250 grams shrimp or prawn

1 piece of onion, diced

1 clove garlic, minced

1 ginger, minced

1 piece of tomato, sliced

3 cups of water

1 Knorr cube (Shrimp flavour)

6 pieces green chillies

1 radish, sliced

½ pack Sinigang mix

3-4 stalks or 1 bundle of

Water Spinach (Kangkong)

A pinch of Magic Sarap

A pinch of salt

Cooking Direction:

1. In a large pot, add water and boil the garlic, ginger and onion for about 3 minutes. Add the shrimps and let it simmer for 5 more minutes.

2. Add the Knorr cube, followed by the other ingredients: chilli, radish, water spinach, and tomato. Leave it for about 3 minutes to ensure that every ingredient is well-cooked, but you should also check it momentarily to avoid over-cooking them.

3. By this time, it still doesn’t have the sour taste, so it’s already high time that you add the Sinigang mix, as well as a pinch of salt to add more zest.

4. add more Sinigang mix if you feel the need for it.

5. You can now serve the dish in a large bowl. You might want a separate small bowl for your sour soup alone, so you can really have a mouthful of its flavour.

Note: This recipe is good for 4-5 persons. (I didn’t place everything in the picture.)
