I miss plantation style suman from Kaumakani, Kauai, Hawaii.

by Mario

I have searched the internet far and wide but have yet to find a recipe for suman that I have enjoyed as a child in Hawaii made by my grandmother and other ladies of her group. I have never watched them prepare it so I don't know how they do it. Everything is the same as the above recipe except that somewhere in the end process I think they would somehow take the finished product (each individually wrapped in banana leaves)and then throw them into or over an open fire. I love the taste of the bites that would be a little charred. Everyone I've spoken to recently have never heard of this.
