Adobong Kangkong Filipino Recipe

“Kangkong,” as what we call it here in the Philippines has a lot of health benefits, not to mention the fact that it is light in the stomach and it can be cooked in various ways which are all certain to be appetizing.

Hence, there is every reason for you to try this recipe if you are looking for a salubrious, cheap and tasty dish. Of course, it can be your main dish! It wasn’t made just to be an appetizer.

If this is your first time to cook this recipe, then here are the ingredients that you will need. You can also adjust the allocation for each ingredient to suit your taste.

Adobong Kangkong Filipino Recipe

Ingredients:

1 bundle or large bowl of Kangkong, cut with an inch of stalk

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 piece of onion, diced

3 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons vinegar

1 glass of water

A pinch of pepper

A pinch of Magic Sarap

A pinch of salt

Cooking Direction:

  1. Heat the pan with a bit of oil over a medium heat.
  2. Saute the garlic and onion, and make sure not to burn them to avoid a bitter taste for the recipe.
  3. Put the large bowl of Kangkong and the glass of water into the pan and mix them for a while. Cover the pan for about 5 minutes while waiting for the Kangkong to be cooked. (I’m sure you don’t want them hard.)
  4. Add the soy sauce, vinegar, pepper, salt and Magic Sarap altogether. These ingredients are crucial for the over-all taste of the dish, so you really need to be careful if you want to add or lessen the proportion for each of them. Mix all the ingredients with the Kangkong.
  5. Cover the pan and let it cook for 2-3 more minutes. If you prefer a half-cooked dish, then it’s already done after the previous step.
  6. Serve the dish while it’s hot.

Note: This recipe is good for 2-3 persons. If you want to cook for a large group, then you can just add some of the ingredients, especially those that are essential for its taste (soy sauce, vinegar and salt).
